Who Does God Say I Am? The Truth I Want My Grandbabies to Know

There is something about becoming a grandmother - or in my case, a "Mimi" - that has made me think even more deeply about the words we speak over children.

My three grandbabies are currently 4, 3, and 2. They are the biggest joy to me. I love watching their little personalities grow, seeing what makes them laugh, noticing the ways they are each so different, and imagining the people they are becoming.

And the more I love them, the more I want them to know the truth.

Not just the sweet things their family says about them.

Not just the encouraging words they hear from people who love them.

But the deeper truth of who God says they are.

Lately, God has been helping me understand a special identity He has placed in me: creative encourager.

I have been embracing that in all areas of my life. In my relationships. In the way I use my words. In the products I create. In the free resources I share. And especially in the way I think about inAWE Handmade.

Because the heart behind what I make is not just to create pretty things.

It is to encourage.

To remind.

To point people back to what is true.

Why Bible affirmations matter for children

There are so many voices speaking into children’s lives.

Some are kind and loving. Some are confusing. Some are loud. Some are not true at all.

Even when children are very young, they begin to form beliefs about themselves. Am I loved? Am I safe? Am I important? Do I belong? Does God see me?

That is why I love the idea of Bible affirmations for children.

Not as empty positive thinking.

Not as a way to make children believe they are perfect or powerful on their own.

But as a simple way to speak God’s truth over them again and again.

Truth like:

I am deeply loved by God.

I am valuable because I have been made in God’s image.

I am chosen by God and belong to Him.

I am brave because God is always with me.

I am kind and compassionate toward others.

These are the kinds of words I want my grandbabies to hear while they are little. I want those truths to become familiar to them before the world has a chance to tell them anything different.

Who does God say I am?

That question — Who does God say I am? — feels so important to me.

Because children will hear many answers to the question of identity as they grow.

They may be described by their personality, their behavior, their talents, their struggles, their appearance, their achievements, or their mistakes.

But none of those things get the final word.

God does.

God says they are loved.

God says they are created with care.

God says they are valuable.

God says they are not alone.

God says they belong to Him.

And when those truths are spoken gently and often, they can become part of the foundation a child carries into the rest of life.

A free printable for families

Because I believe these words matter so much, I wanted to make them available even for families who may not be able to buy a handmade book right now.

So I created a free  God’s Truth About Me  printable.

It includes Bible affirmations and Scripture verses and can be used in three simple ways:

1) Print it double-sided to create a small booklet.

2) Print it single-sided and cut the pages apart to use as affirmation cards.

3) Print the png files on a single page as a coloring sheet.

You could read one card at breakfast, tuck one into a lunchbox, place one beside a child’s bed, use them during morning time, or keep them nearby for those moments when a child needs a gentle reminder of what is true.

My hope is that this free printable gives parents, grandparents, teachers, and caregivers an easy way to speak Scripture-based encouragement over the children they love.

A personalized Christian book for kids

I also created a handmade version of these affirmations as a personalized children’s book.

Personalized God's Truth About Me with Custom Message | Christian Books for Children - inAWE Handmade Gifts, Personalized Gifts, Spiritual Gifts

Our God’s Truth About Me book includes 14 Bible-based affirmations, each paired with Scripture and bright, kid-friendly illustrations. It can be personalized with the child’s name on the front cover, and there is also an option to include a custom message on the back.

That makes it a meaningful gift for:

  • Grandchildren
  • Godchildren
  • Baptisms
  • Baby dedications
  • Birthdays
  • Christmas
  • Easter baskets
  • First Communion
  • Children who need encouragement

I especially love the idea of a child growing up with a little book that has their name on it and tells them, page after page, who God says they are.

Not because the book itself is magic.

But because words matter.

Repetition matters.

Scripture matters.

And the children we love need truth spoken over them in ways they can understand.

The truth I want my grandbabies to know

When I look at my grandbabies, I see so much wonder.

I see tenderness.

I see curiosity.

I see silliness.

I see big feelings in little bodies.

I see three children who are deeply loved by their family.

But even more than that, I see three children who are deeply loved by God.

That is the truth I want them to know.

That is the truth I want them to carry.

And that is the truth I hope this book and printable help other children hear too.

Whether you download the free printable, purchase the personalized book, or simply speak these words over a child you love, I hope this encourages you to remind them often:

You are loved.

You are valuable.

You are chosen.

You are brave.

You belong to God.
