30 Attributes of God Every Christian Should Know
Several years ago, I was introduced to a list of God's attributes through Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). The list was simple—just an attribute and a brief description. I printed it off and tucked it into my quiet-time basket that sits beside my recliner.

At the time, I had no idea how much I would come to depend on that simple piece of paper.
As my mom's dementia progressed, I found myself returning to that list again and again. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, scared, angry, or confused, I would pull it out and slowly read through each attribute.
After reading one, I often found myself responding the same way:
"Yes. I believe that about God."
Those words became a lifeline for my faith.
What Are the Attributes of God?
The attributes of God are the qualities that reveal His character and nature. They help us understand who God is and how He interacts with His creation.
When we study the attributes of God, we're not simply learning facts. We're learning about the God who loves us, sustains us, and invites us into a relationship with Him.
Attributes such as God's sovereignty, goodness, faithfulness, wisdom, mercy, and love reveal His unchanging character and help us know Him more deeply.
Why the Attributes of God Matter
During my mom's dementia journey, I struggled with something I wasn't expecting.
I was frustrated with God.
My mother was an amazing woman of faith. She loved the Lord, served Him faithfully, and spent her life investing in others. I couldn't understand why someone so dedicated to God would have to walk through such a difficult trial.

I wasn't questioning whether God existed.
I was struggling to reconcile what I knew about God with what I was watching happen to my mom.
That's why I kept returning to the list.
I needed to remind myself of what I already knew to be true.
God Is Sovereign
The attribute that became most important to me was God's sovereignty.
Throughout the 2025-2026 BSF study, I encountered story after story of God accomplishing what seemed impossible. Week after week, I was reminded that God is in control of all things. You can read details about that in this Substack article.
What surprised me most was realizing how much I had lost sight of that truth.
I believed it.
I just wasn't living as though I believed it.
The more I studied Scripture, the more I was reminded that God's plans are not threatened by circumstances, diseases, governments, or human limitations.
Even dementia was not beyond His control.
God Is Good
Remembering that God is sovereign naturally led me to another attribute I desperately needed.
God is good.
It's one thing to believe someone is in control. It's another thing to believe the One in control is good.
There were many things I didn't understand about my mom's illness. There are still questions I cannot answer.
But I kept returning to the truth that God's goodness is not determined by my circumstances.
His character remains good even when life feels anything but good.
God Is Provider
Looking back now, I can clearly see God's provision throughout my mom's journey.
One example stands out.
My dad lives in a rural community with only one nearby long-term care facility. Initially, the facility wasn't going to accept my mom because her type of dementia is sometimes associated with violent behavior.
Then something unexpected happened.
The admissions director knew of my mom through mutual connections. She personally visited my mom, accompanied by a nurse. Because my mom never exhibited the behaviors they feared, they made an exception and admitted her.
That alone felt like a gift from God.
But His provision didn't stop there.
One of my mom's primary caregivers turned out to be a former student. Crystal knew my mom before dementia. She remembered her kindness and the way she cared for others. My mother adored her.
What makes this story even more remarkable is that Crystal had only started working there a few weeks before my mom moved in.
Looking back, I can't help but see God's fingerprints all over that situation.
He also provided an incredible hospice team during my mom's final months and healthy relationships with my dad and brothers as we navigated difficult decisions together.
Again and again, God provided exactly what we needed for the season we were in.

30 Attributes of God Found in Scripture
The list that carried me through those difficult years included attributes such as:
- Accessible
- Creator
- Eternal
- Faithful
- Good
- Holy
- Just
- Loving
- Merciful
- Omnipresent
- Omniscient
- Provider
- Sovereign
- Wise
...and many more.
Each one points to an important truth about who God is.
Free Printable: 30 Attributes of God PDF
Because this list meant so much to me, I've created a free printable PDF that includes all 30 attributes along with brief descriptions.
I actually printed my own copy and colored it. I plan to put it in a sheet protector so I can keep it with my BSF study notes.
As I read Scripture, I want to be actively looking for God's attributes and recognizing His character throughout His Word.
My hope is that this printable will become a useful tool for your own Bible study, prayer time, or quiet time.
Why I Created This Book of God's Attributes
After my mom passed away in March 2026, I found myself thinking about how much that simple list had strengthened my faith.
I wanted to create something that would help others the way it helped me.
The original BSF list included only the attribute and a brief description. Because every product we create at inAWE Handmade is rooted in Scripture, I wanted to take it a step further by pairing each attribute with a corresponding Bible verse.
In fact, the "AWE" in our name stands for Ancient Word Eternal. Pointing people back to God's Word has always been at the heart of what we do.
My prayer is that these books and printable resources will find their way into the hands of people who need them most—people facing grief, uncertainty, loss, fear, or difficult decisions.
Because sometimes we don't need a new truth about God.
We simply need to remember what we already know to be true.
And when we do, we may find ourselves saying:
"Yes. I believe that about God."
